The region’s leading Cyber Security Consultancy Company, EBDAA together with TRA’s UAE computer emergency response team (aeCERT) signed an agreement to establish an information security awareness committee for educating every individual in the UAE.

The committee aims to set up various working groups bringing field pioneers together from different government and private entities to address online security risks. These working groups will focus on educating different users such as kids, teenagers, parents, employees, and others within the UAE society. The committee will also have a specialized working group focusing on educating judges in the UAE on matters related to dealing with cyber-crime.

The committee will be the hub for all information security awareness initiatives in the country. The committee will work with universities and colleges specialized in information security across the UAE and empower students to participate and assist various groups within the committee to achieve intended goals.

His Excellency (H.E.) Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Director General, TRA, “Almost every day the world witnesses emerging technological developments, especially at the time of smart cities and free data flowing all over the digital realm. With this in mind, we should all be aware of the various risks that threaten individuals, organizations and society as a whole. The TRA is fully committed to increase awareness and provide support for all people and entities inside the country--helping them face these risks and spread the culture of cyber security among individuals, following our strategic goal of promoting an electronic lifestyle in the UAE.”

“TRA through aeCERT will be signing various agreements and partnerships with various private and public firms to promote the protection and provide highest levels of cyber security. aeCERT recognizes its responsibilities and affirms its promise of working 24/7 to ensure a safe electronic environment. This agreement reflects aeCERT’s continuous efforts to work, spread awareness and educate society regarding practices and solutions that are at pace with the developments of dealing with electric risks and crimes,” Al Mansoori added.

“There are many national efforts to educate users in the UAE about online threats, yet many cyber-attacks are still successful due to lack of end user awareness, resulting in huge financial losses. The rapid development and adoption of technologies in the UAE, has created a challenge among the public to stay updated about related security best practices,” said Ali Alamadi, the Managing Director of EBDAA and the committee chairman.

He also added, “It is time to tie all efforts in the country and focus on educating every individual living in the UAE to promote safer use of technologies on a national level.”

“The rapid transformation towards smart cities and Internet of Things (IoT) is changing the cyber security landscape. With all these emerging technologies, there is a need for a single hub on a national level to ensure provision of adequate cyber security awareness training for all individuals in the UAE.,” said Amar Basic, Partner & Senior Consultant – EBDAA.

The aim of the committee is to be officially recognized as:

  • Information Center – Providing statistics and reports about all security awareness activities and initiatives in the UAE
  • Standards Library – Building a library for all security awareness guidelines and best practices
  • Alliance Center – Connecting center for all information security awareness activities in the UAE
