The General Authority for Regulating the Telecommunications Sector (TRA), has announced today that it has participated at the eighth edition of the Anti-Commercial Fraud Exhibition, which is organized by the Department of Economic Development and will take place in Abu Dhabi between 10th and 13th December 2015.
This participation is part of TRA’s continuous efforts in fighting commercial fraud and informing customers about the importance of avoiding counterfeit products. Being part of this exhibition also confirms TRAs’ keenness on spreading awareness about the importance of buying authorized devices that comply with the laws and guidelines that regulate the ICT sector in the UAE.
In this context, H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, UAE TRA Director General, stated: “We are keen on strengthening cooperation ties with strategic partners to serve the objective of protecting consumer rights in the UAE. We are also committed to organizing inspection tours to ensure that the products that are sold in the UAE markets conform to the best standards and measurement adopted in the ICT sector.”
“The subject of monitoring markets and products related to the ICT sector is of urgent priority to us out of our commitment to the privacy and confidentiality of user data. The other important dimension in this subject is protecting the sources of national income and maintaining the prestigious reputation that the UAE is recognized for in terms of protecting intellectual property.” H.E. added
Ahmed Al Shamsi, Type Approval Manager, at TRA said: “During our participation at the Anti-Commercial Fraud Exhibition, we are demonstrating a number of banned, copied and restricted devices, which require additional permits in order to be used. The aim of this display is to raise awareness among customers and educate them how to distinguish between forged and authentic devices.”
Moreover, the TRA has organized numerous competitions that aim at educating customers on how to detect the counterfeit and prohibited devices. These initiatives are meant to increase awareness about the TRA’s vision and role in protecting the telecommunications sector in the UAE and contributing in the long run in reducing the spread of unauthorized devices.
