Spectrum Planning and Allocation Section
The Spectrum Planning and Allocation Section is responsible for establishing the planning and regulatory framework for managing spectrum resources in the UAE. This includes reviewing and updating the National Frequency Plan, and conducting technical studies related to spectrum planning and allocation, including compatibility studies between terrestrial and satellite systems, as well as convergence among services. It analyzes technical requirements and assesses compatibility and sharing between radiocommunication services and wireless systems, including the conduct of technical tests and trials. It carries out technical, economic, and standards-related studies on spectrum usage, and monitors technological developments and emerging standards related to radio frequency applications. The Section also plays a forward-looking role in anticipating the future of spectrum resource management and radio-based emerging technologies. It reviews and updates spectrum regulatory frameworks, replans and reallocates spectrum for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) applications, and updates regulations in line with relevant international organizations’ standards. In addition, it performs ongoing technical assessments of emerging technologies, identifies risks related to its operations and follows up on mitigation initiatives, participates in licensing committees and international events, coordinates with Arab countries and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, responds to inquiries and reviews exceptional requests, and oversees public consultations and awareness activities through workshops and advisory engagements.
