Ankabut, the UAE’s National Research and Education Network (NREN), was launched in 2006. Ankabut offers academic institutions connectivity to other education networks around the world. In addition to connecting universities, it can connect schools and public institutions together across the UAE with an effective cost model. Ankabut also co-operates on a national, GCC, regional and international arena representing the UAE in conferences, exhibitions and forums. The network aims to offer QoS based networks with IPv4/IPv6, multicast and introduce advanced services on a “Closed Group Network” with “Public Interest Purposes.”

The project aims to develop robotic technologies for exploration vehicle systems, study new sites on the lunar surface, and analyze dust on the lunar surface.
The project will enhance the UAE’s position in engineering, Basic Science & Technology, including Materials Science and Engineering, advanced communication technologies, robotics, control and navigation systems, and geosciences.
All systems and components of the explorer have been designed using State-of-the-art technology, in which complex materials are used to meet the exact requirements of the project. The explorer has been equipped with many scientific devices and cameras, and thus the mission of Explorer Rashid will be an ideal opportunity to understand the physical and geological nature of the moon surface in an unprecedented way.
Explorer Rashid is a key part of the "Mars 2117" project, which includes a national program to prepare specialized Emirati scientific research cadres in the field of exploration of the red planet, and aims in its final stages to build the first human settlement on Mars within 100 years.
The project "Mars 2117" includes developing an integrated scientific conception of the first human settlement on Mars that will form a small city and its transportation, food, energy and others.
